Welcome to the Saskatoon Kendo Club

    The Saskatoon Kendo Club was founded in 1981 by Ken Miyaoka. Miyaoka-sensei has over 50 years experience and holds the rank of nanadan (7th degree). Since the club was founded, dozens of people have attained a rank of 1st degree or higher. The club currently has about 50 members and practices at the YMCA in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. End of term, summer schedule

The new summer term begins Wednesday, May 1. We will be changing the practice times to 7-9 on Wednesdays and 3-5 on Sundays. From June through August there will be no Sunday class.

Manitoba Seminar

The Manitoba Kendo Club seminar with Tsumura-sensei, hanshi hachidan, will be held June 21-23 in Winnipeg. So far 5 SKC people are planning on attending, so if you wish to attend you will be able to hitch a ride and share a hotel room with somebody. Contact Neil for more info.

Iaido practice change

The iaido club is now practicing on Sundays from 2-4 at Albert Community Centre. See here for more information about iaido.

End of term, kids' exams

The last class of the winter term will be Sunday, April 28. The summer term will begin May 1. Note that there are no kids classes during summer, although kids are welcome to register and attend the adult classes. Also we do not accept beginners during summer term. During June, July and August we will be holding Wednesday classes only.

On Wednesday, April 24 and Sunday, April 28 we will be holding exams for the kids class. Kids who are new this year will be trying for gokyu (yellow patch) or yonkyu (orange patch). Kids who previously tested will be trying for their next rank. Please see our club policies for what is expected for each rank. For yellow, the kids must know the following terms:
seiza: sit down
rei: bow
o-suburi: big practice swing, stop with shinai almost touching floor
sho-men: regular practice swing, stop with right hand at shoulder height
saiumen: sideways practice swing
haya-suburi: jumping practice swing

Registration Closed

We are no longer accepting new beginners. The next beginners' class will be September 2013.
